Tenets of Astrology

One of my friends had commented that I am like this busy, uber curious kid who keeps on lifting bricks of a structure to see what is underneath it. That is an accurate description and I revel in understanding the macro/meta systems that are around us. (My long term plan is to take over the universe once I understand all the systems:-)).

Astrology (in spite of all my skepticism and disdain) has been one of my interests. It has constantly figured in my thoughts on will v/s destiny. So this covid ridden and lockdown induced year, I started reading about it.

Quick learnings;

Amongst few systems of astrology (Western, Indian, etc), the Indian(Vedic) system is considered more accurate as it takes a lot of factors into account as opposed to just the birth month. So it apparently answers “How twins can be completely different although they are born under the same stars”?

After crawling the internet, few books on astrology were found. However many books were not good at explaining and very defensive in nature. Some of the blogs by western astrologers were in fact easier to understand.

Finally, though I landed on this well articulated, logically written book by P V R Narasimha Rao (https://www.vedicastrologer.org/articles/vedic_astro_textbook.pdf). I highly recommend the first few chapters if you want to understand the concepts.

I think there is a lot of misconceptions about astrology, just like everything else. I found it to be more like a map rather than a future predictor. Just to provide a proper analogy, think of it like open water swimming. If one is familiar with the water currents, wind, creatures in the water, it becomes easier to navigate the water easily. Astrology seems to provide energy maps (Agreed though, the whole new age energy concept itself is not scientifically proven as of now).

Finally, Vedic astrology clearly states that in spite of all currents one can always swim against it and “will win over destiny”.
